PROJECTS
Aboriginal Land Agreement
Crown lands, Tamworth Regional Council and Nungaroo LALC are negotiating an agreement to resolve a number of land claims to the satisfaction and benefit of all parties. The purple shading is land proposed to be transferred to the LALC, light blue retained by the state. Light pink transferred to TRC.
Cultural Sites Course
Nungaroo LALC is working with Dr Maria Cotter @ UNE to run a cultural sites training course in the first half of 2022. The purpose is twofold, to train those interested community members in cultural sites identification, recording, mapping, protection and salvage, and to be able to survey LALC owned land and land the LALC is interested in to better understand the cultural history and resources there and how best to protect them.
Social and Affordable Housing
Nungaroo LALC owns 15 residential properties. Since 2015 they have been head leased to AHO and managed by Gunida Gunya. The properties are due to return to LALC control by June 2022. To meet the housing needs of our community Nungaroo is exploring options to increase the number of available properties.
Nungaroo Community Hall
Nungaroo LALC is pursuing grants to renovate the old Quirindi Girl Guide Hall to upgrade the kitchen, bathroom and access to enable its use for community activities.
Cultural Mapping
In an effort to record and make available to the community and to inform decision making in development consultation, we are currently contacting repositories of archival records, looking for information relating to people, places and names. We will also make any resources relating to the Aboriginal history of the area available through the web site on the resources page.
NAIDOC
Nungaroo is committed to celebrating with our community NAIDOC Week. It will start with a Flag raising and morning tea to signal the beginning of the celebrations and Nungaroo will support other community events as needed.
